Hair care for thick hair

Hair care for thick hair

Having dealt with so many clients with this hair type has definitely been a journey.
Thick hair can have many forms. What I mean by this is that thick hair can be anything from the texture of the hair itself to the amount of hair you have.
Haircare with thick hair definitely starts at home!
You are going to have to put in some effort to tame that mane.
The best possible styling aid your hair needs, even if you don’t style your hair often, would be a moisture based heat protector.
Thick hair, especially unruly and frizzy hair loves moisture.
A product which I absolutely cannot do without is Thermoliss from the brazilian hair brand Inoar.
It’s an incredibly lightweight moisture based heat protection balm:
-You wouldn’t need to worry about your hair feeling heavy as it does not weigh the hair down.
-It defrizzes those flyaways that drive you mad.
-It gives your hair great combability. Your brush or comb will glide through your hair.
-It also protects against the sun and heat styling tools.
Maintenance on your thick hair would require you to get regular trims, to shape your hair and remove weight from your locks.Book your maintenance trims and a nourishing treatment with your stylist every 6-8 weeks.
If you are someone that has thick unruly and frizzy hair. Your hair would really benefit from a Brazilian or Keratin straightening treatment.
This has been proven to improve the condition of your hair as it replaces lost keratin in the cortex of your hair (The cortex is the layer in your hairshaft where all hairdressing processes take place)
These treatments if done correctly does improve the condition of your hair, gives magnificent shine and let’s face it nobody wants to deal with unruly and frizzy hair every day, especially if you’re an on the go kind of gal.
Last but not least if you do have thick hair but you have got a natural wave or curl present in your hair, why not work with your hair rather than fight against it!
Not a lot of people have been blessed with curly hair and more awareness is needed in society around the fact that curly or textured hair is BEAUTIFUL.
A range that I have found to work beautifully with a curly hair type is The Curly Twist segment of The Dualsenses Range from Goldwell Professional.
Many of my clients would know that I had curly hair just a few months ago. (Yes I had a perm done on my hair) I loved my curly hair but I just got a teensy bit bored, I’m a Hairdresser.
I have experienced for myself that Curl Control, a moisturizing curl cream, and Curl Splash, a hydrating curl gel, really does create the most beautiful textured look when used together.
-Start with towel dried hair. Dispense a small amount of the Curl Control cream into your hands and work through your hair. Comb the product through your hair until evenly distributed.
-The next step is probably the most fun part.
Dispense your Curl Splash gel into your hands and start scrunching your hair. Take note that this motion needs to be done with gentle movements from the ends of the hair to the root area.
-When you let go of the hair after the scrunching motion, ensure that you are lowering the hair slowly as you don’t want to distort the curls or texture that has just been created.
-Upon completion of the entire head. You could finish the look off with a light hairspray or leave it as is. Your hair will dry in the shape you have created and you are ready to take on the world with your locks!
These are but a few tips from my experience with hair that I have to share with you.
